Abstract

186 scriptural knowledge and persistence in faith are some of the marks the Church should have in its ecumenical journey of making Jesus known. The early church was fashioned along the lines of catholicity and universalism or the ecumenical character of the empowering Spirit. The early church was a church which was moving from the inside to the outside with a view of getting everybody included in the grace of Jesus Christ. Exclusion and discrimination were foreign practices in its life. After receiving the empowering Spirit members of the early church started expressing themselves - opening up themselves for others. Equipping and empowering others were some of the goals the early church strove for. The key to viability in the witness of the Church in the world today is breaking down of the walls of separation and establishing inter-relatedness for the sake of the well-being of the human societies. All church minis- tries, according to consultation, exist in order to build and sustain lasting Christian unity and purpose. The Church should become a viable com- munity of hope, healing, sharing and empowerment. The book can serve as an extremely useful guide to theological candi- dates who wish to
