Riens de Haan completed his Mission on the Margin as a PhD Researcher at the University of KwaZulu-Natal on 11 March 2010. He acknowledges the support and the guidance of his promoters, the late Professor Dr. Kwame Bediako and the late Professor Dr. S. de Gruchy. It was sad that Bediako — at the time also a member of the Academic Advisory Board of Exchange — passed away on 10 June 2008. Professor de Gruchy took over the supervision of the research, but he died tragically on 21 February 2010. De Haan worked in the eNkumane region in KwaZulu-Natal (Republic of South Africa) as a minister of the Reformed Mission since 1991. This Mission was started by the congre- gation of the Free Reformed Churches (Vrijgemaakte Kerken) in Kampen in 1960.
