VAN DE WOUW Introduction* Preliminary remarks The five texts that are edited here, are the 'allegationes' (pleadings)' in two lawsuits and two consultations in the first suit. They were first discovered by the late canon Edouard Fournier (1873-1954), who read a paper on them to the Societe d'histoire du droit des pays flamands, picards et wallons in 1930, the text of which is preserved in Ms. Arras, bibl. municip., coll. Fournier, Melanges B 32. Fournier mentioned these allegationes to Professor Kuttner, who suggested editing them when we asked him to entrust to us the edition of a short medieval canon law text. He also procured a microfilm of the text and a photostat copy of ' Fournier's paper. 252 Description of the manuscript We will first describe the only manuscript in which our texts are to be found, Ms. 119 of the Bibliotheque municipale of Boulogne-sur-mer, France.
