Th e vast literature thus generated seemed to have left few aspects of citizenship uncharted. Yet, this present volume sets itself the challenging task of revitalising the fi eld of citizenship studies by introducing a new concept, namely “acts of citizenship”. Th e 26 contributions from a wide range of scholars from various disciplines (sociology, politics, geography, philoso phy, his- tory etc.) are designed around this central concept, whose theoretical founda tions have been laid down by the editors of the volume, Engin F. Isin and Greg M. Nielsen.
