The book, The Åland Example and Its Components – Relevance for International Conflict Resolution , is an anthology including seven different authors. The main part, however, has been written by three researchers at the Åland Islands Peace Institute. The book is related to the theory concerning conflict resolution. Most of the literature surrounding this issue so far has been dealt with diplomacy, negotiation, mediation, consociationalism, self-determination, self-government and institutional design and various autonomy arrangements. This particular book takes its point of departure in a case of territorial autonomy, namely the Åland example within the Finnish jurisdiction. The Åland example is here understood as the different components that the Åland case consists of: the demilitarisation and neutralisation, the self-government structure and the protection of language and culture. The demilitarisation and neutralisation is based on an international agreement from 1856 and is still considered valid; the self-government was introduced in 1921 by the League of Nations; and the protection of language and culture also dates back to the 1921 http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png International Journal on Minority and Group Rights Brill
