The value per capita of the Danish foreign trade is, I believe, higher than that of other European countries Agriculture and industry, our two main sources of income, are completely dependent on the import of raw materials etc, and, which is most important, we have no domestic resources for pro- ducing power Rapid developments are characteristic for our time and in these circumstances a free supply of oil, for instance, is a vital neces- sity for Denmark as well as for other nations. Consequently Denmark is dependent, probably even more than other European countries for its livelihood on unhindered passage through the Suez Canal As a seafaring nation, whose ships carry goods also in the services of other countries, Denmark is as deeply interested as any other European country in the assurance of unhindered passage through the Suez Canal by the ships of all nations.
