Sage Publications, New Delhi/ Thousand Oaks/London, 2000, foreword by Sadako Ogata, xxix + 613 pp., ISBN 0761993622. The past decade has seen a considerable growth in refugee law publications. While a multidisciplinary diversiŽ cation and theoretical sophistication of the topic is welcome, its academic debate has also become wordier. For better or worse, the Ž eld is no longer dominated by a handful of standard authors, and the task to determine a canon of introductory readings entails ever more difŽ cult selection decisions. This is all the more true as the market for refugee law teaching and training has expanded as well. The formal accession of states to the 1951 Refugee Convention and the 1967 Protocol, the enlargement of the European Union with the concomitant export of refugee law norms and the continuing expansion in human rights education let new target groups emerge, over and above the classical law student with a strong interest in international affairs.
