<jats:sec><jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>The purpose of this article is to describe, analyze and discuss aspects of the Swedish No Fault Patient Insurance Scheme (NFPI, in Swedish "patientförsäkringen"). The discussion will deal with reasons behind the emerging of such a scheme and its likely effects. A question is whether it has qualities that may be of value to other cultures, and what the drawbacks may be. In other words: what are the possibilities for cross-national learning?</jats:p> </jats:sec>
