Introduction A questionnaire on the further use of human tissuel was distributed among several participants to the workshop, enquiring upon the state of the art - or rather the state of the debate - in their country. This enquiry was intend- ed to form an impression of the ethical and legal issues which have been either identified or discussed in different European countries.? Completed questionnaires were returned from 13 countries.3 The answers to some items of the questionnaire have been fitted into a diagram (see Annex II) permitting a general impression of the state of the debate in the different countries.4 2. Results and Points of Interest 2.1. Debate andlor controversies The debate on the further use of human tissue in several countries seems to be limited to the medical profession and advisory boards.
