Indeed, Adam Smith himself considered that political economy was a branch of jurispru- dence. The purpose of this Recurring Theme is to explore the contribution that the science of economics can bring to the various fields of international law. Others have already attempted to chart the emerging connections between international law and the law and economics perspective – the reader may be familiar, among other publications, with the ground-breaking article published by Professor Trachtman, 1 who also contributed to the present issue. The various contributions published in this Recurring Theme build further on these attempts. Far from exploring all aspects of the rich interplay between international legal scholarship and economics, this Recurring Theme will offer readers of International Law Forum a glimpse into both the methodological questions raised by this inter- play and the possible applications of this doctrine in various fields of international law. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png International Law FORUM du droit international (continued in International Community Law Review) Brill

The purpose of this Recurring Theme is to explore the contribution that the science of economics can bring to the various fields of international law. Far from exploring all aspects of the rich interplay between international legal scholarship and economics, this Recurring Theme will offer readers of International Law Forum a glimpse into both the methodological questions raised by this inter- play and the possible applications of this doctrine in various fields of international law.
