113 FRIEDRICH SCHWEITZER RELIGIOUS DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION Practical-theological and Educational Comments on Kalevi Tamminen's Comparison of Faith Development and Religious Judgement K.Tamminen's attempt to further illumine the relationship between the theo- ries of faith development and the development of religious judgement (which in the following will be referred to as 'Faith' and 'Religious Judgement') in many ways contributes to, and enriches, the practical-theological and educa- tional discussion on these theories. As he points out himself there have been a number of attempts to clarify this relationship by looking at the theories themselves or by analysing their psychological, theological, and educational background assumptions (Fowler, Nipkow & Schweitzer 1991; Reich 1993a; 1993b). While such attempts continue to be important, Tamminen's approach goes beyond such analyses in that his results offer empirical insights concern- ing the differential development of Faith and Religious Judgement over the life cycle. Tamminen's report contains many details which in themselves may be impor- tant for practical theology and religious education and which need not be repeated here. I will also not address the methodological questions which, in part, are mentioned by Tamminen himself and which may require some additional discussion - like the question of scoring,
