Th e value of secularisation theory, in the light of the religious revival worldwide, is one of the most hotly debated topics in sociology of religion. Hence this collection of papers read at a hermeneutics conference in 2003 is a valuable contribution. Its strength is that it con- tains a substantial body of material, which is particularly useful to discover the typical European position in this debate. Th e bilingual presentation (German and English, with summaries in the other language) increases the opportunities for a broad discussion. Th e editors adhere quite closely to the Weberian definition of secularisation (disenchantment); their thesis that there is a specifically European form of secularisation. It is a pity, therefore, that the volume does not include a contribution by an adherent of rational choice/market theory. Th e book is divided into four parts.
