Darío López Rodríguez, The Liberating Mission of Jesus: The Message of the Gospel of Luke (Eugene, OR: Pickwick Publications, 2012). xv + 142 pp., $18.00 paperback.

Darío López Rodríguez, The Liberating Mission of Jesus: The Message of the Gospel of Luke... Darío López Rodriguez approaches his subject as a native of Peru and one who ministers in the marginalized district of Lima. Due to the nature of oppression he sees around his church on a daily basis, it is not surprising that this book focuses on Jesus as the liberator from various forms of physical, societal and geographical oppression. His focus for this short work is biblical exegesis concentrated in the Gospel of Luke. He contends that the books of Luke and Acts present a message of “the liberating mission of Jesus of Nazareth as a paradigm for the individual and collective witness of believers on all frontiers and in all cultural contexts.” Each of the book’s ten chapters highlights a specific theme associated with the author’s thesis on the message of liberation contained in Luke’s gospel. Chapters one and two lay the foundation of his study. In Chapter one López Rodríguez argues for the universal liberating mission of Jesus that reaches beyond every kind of limitation. The Good News of the Kingdom not only liberates, but also empowers human beings to respond to the call of God, which leads to a revitalization of social, political and economic structures http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Pneuma Brill
