The academy has received a great gift in Bovon’s second update of the original Luc le Théologien: Vingt-cinq ans de recherches (1950-1975) (Delachaux et Niestlé, 1978). He has created a masterful overview of studies in Luke-Acts that presents both the for- est and the trees, showing general trajectories and summarizing the contributions of individuals. Bovon does not merely record the works of others, but also assesses their work from his own perspective, which gives the reader more understanding and, on occasion, opportunity for debate. His method holds the attention of the reader. Rather than presenting a mere descending chronology of works as they appear, Bovon treats them under major topics such as the plan of God, salvation history, eschatology, the interpretation of the Hebrew Scriptures, Christology, and the reception of salvation and the church, the major issues he presented in the first edition.
