In that year he married a daughter of Jan Cornelis Lambrechtsz, a goldsmith from Antwerp who was living in The Hague. The young couple moved to a neighbouring house in the Gortstraat. On 5 December i 5g7 Hondius joined the local guild of St. Luke. Furthermore, he succeeded in obtaining a privilege from the States General for a print bearing the portrait of stadholder Maurits. Within two years Hondius successfully conquered the Hague market for prints: in 1599 he was granted a general privilege for his print production. From his publications it is clear that he sought his clientele among the members of the local town government and high officials of other government bodies, such as the States General and the court. Hendrick Hondius was to become one of the most succesful print publishers in Holland during the first half of the seventeenth century. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Quaerendo Brill
