Notes and news

Notes and news Notes and news THE SOCIETY OF FRIENDS OF THE U.L.A. The 1983 meeting of the Society of Friends of Amsterdam University Library took place on 6 June. The President, Rienk Visser, proudly presented University Librarian Prof. Ernst Braches with the Albert Verwey Archief, purchased by the Friends from the Verwey family to be donated as gift No. 70. The archive consists of the literary remains of the Dutch poet and man of letters Albert Verwey (1865-1937) and includes more than 30000 letters (c. 2000 correspondents), about 5000 MSS, books, documents and ephemera. The collection was deposited in the library as long ago as 1944, on loan-always a construction likely to cause some anx- iety with librarians. The permanent place within the library holdings now made possible thanks to the Friends was gratefully acknowledged as such by Prof. Braches. Speaker for the evening was the painter and book artist Kurt L6b who delivered an address on 'Boekillustratie vandaag - een boekkunstenaar bericht over zijn werk' [Book illustration today-a book artist discusses his work]. The more than a hundred people who had preferred on this stifling hot evening to hear L6b speak rather than enjoy a cold beer in one http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Quaerendo Brill
