Book reviews 302 The earliest listed Italian Decameron was printed in rS4S (cat. No. I ) ; the second, printed at Lyons in ISSS, is the important edition with notes by Pietro Bembo which we owe to Guillaume Rouille, who published not only the new translation of De claris mulieribus already mentioned, but also, in the same years (15 5 and 15 52), two reprints of Le Ma- çan's Decameron translation. Among the seventeen other listed editions of the original Ita- lian text, especially noteworthy are-apart from that of 1761 based on the 'ottimo testo' contained in the manuscript transcribed by Francesco d'Amaretto Mannelli (cat. No. 12)-the two printed in the Netherlands (Amsterdam [Daniel Elsevier] r66S, cat. No. 4; Londra [Holland] 1727, cat. No. 9) and the five with Amsterdam falsely given as the place of publication (Nos. 5 , 6, 7, 11, rS). With three exceptions Boccaccio's other Italian works are all present. Fiametta, which is well represented, and Corbaccio also appear in French and Dutch translations (Nos. 1 3 1- 3 ; 138-9: Le songe de Bocace and Droom van Bocatius, both printed in Amsterdam, one in 1699, the other in 1701).
