Stracke, J. Van Mierlo, J.B. Poukens and L. Reypens, all philologists, founded in Antwerp the Ruusbroecgenootschap with the mission statement to pay attention to the study of Dutch piety and Brabantine mysticism (Ruusbroec, Hadewijch). Over the years this society has developed into an interna- tionally well-known research centre with a library of its own. For some years it has been incorporated into ufsia (Universitaire Faculteiten Sint-Ignatius Antwerpen), which subsequently has been included in the (umbrella organization) Universiteit Antwerpen ( ua ). A commissioned account of the previous history and the founding of the Ruusbroecgenootschap was presented in the academic session.
