Delving into municipal archives of Venice, Florence, Bologna, and Siena, Guy Geltner creates a picture of prisons in the fourteenth century that is both vibrant and engaging. Coming from his dissertation and work as a Fellow at Lincoln College, Oxford, Th e Medieval Prison explores the role of the prison in the pre-modern Italian commune.
