This is a reprint in a slightly reduced format of the thesis prepared under the direction of N. FERNÁNDEZ MARCOS and presented to the Philological Faculty of the Complutensian University of Madrid in 1978, where it was distinguished with the qualification cum laude. Although it is too late to offer a detailed review of it-for that I may refer to e.g. A. PIETERSMA in Journal of Biblical Literature 100 (1981), p. 262-, it may be worthwile on the occasion of the reprint to call attention to this book, a specimen of the revival of scholarship on Bible and Judaism in Spain. It contains a detailed investigation of Symmachus' translation techniques, the relationship of his translation to the other Greek Bible translations, and the person of the translator (part I, pp. 33-386); a critical edition of the Psalms in the translation by Symmachus as far as preserved in full (part II, pp. 387-435; here BUSTO SAIZ could draw on unpublished materials
