188 REVIEW OF BOOKS treatment of more messianic passages and a fuller discussion of the relation- ship between the messianism of the Testaments and that of Judaism and early Christianity in general (p. I). The first part of the book deals with text-critical matters. Very important is the announcement that the author managed to take photographs of Athos, Laura K 116, unknown so far. It turns out to be a near relative of I 48 (1 in the edition M. DE JONGE, Leiden2, 1970); according to H. it is the original of which I 48 is the copy. Next the author managed to collate the Armenian Mss Erewan 1500, 353, 354, 346 and Vienna 706, which according to C. BURCHARD (BZNW 36, pp. 1-29, esp. p. 25-see JSJ I, p. 84; B. gives the number of the Vienna Ms as 705) were the most likely ones to yield new data. H.'s conclusion is that in fact Erewan 1500 and 353 together v>ith Jerusalem 1925 (used by M. E. STONE, The Testament of Levi, Jerusalem 1969, see JSJ I, pp. 195-196) will form a sufficient starting-point for the reconstruction of the original Armenian text. The result of a comparison
