This volume publishes the proceedings of the third international conference of the International Society for the Study of Deuterocanonical and Cognate Literature (ISDCL), which was held in Tübingen from June 30 to July 4, 2007. The collec- tion contains 26 essays, 14 of which are written in German and 12 in English. It offers a broad range of studies on the changing perceptions and functions of vari- ous biblical figures in ancient Jewish and Christian literature. While there is a significant predominance of theological approaches, literary and historical approaches are included as well. The essays are divided into seven parts according to the respective literary corpuses. As the title of the book and the name of the society indicate, the first section which covers about one third of the book is devoted to the so-called deuterocanonical literature or Old Testament Apocrypha.
