This revised doctoral thesis (Manchester) joins a growing chorus of scholarly voices seeking to locate the book of Hebrews more firmly within its Jewish milieu. D.’s study makes three contributions to scholarship on Hebrews: 1) she calls atten- tion to the implications of textual plurality of the LXX for assessing and interpret- ing scriptural citations in Hebrews; 2) she demonstrates the promise of applying to Hebrews several of the categories scholars such as Arnold Goldberg and Alex- ander Samely have deduced to describe the exegetical methods of rabbinic inter- pretation; and 3) she reminds scholars of the possibility that the author of Hebrews exercised great care and faithfulness when citing Jewish Scripture as he knew it (a possibility not often considered by modern commentators).
