VON AMR HAMZAWY Berlin – Kairo Einleitung In einem Vortrag im Berliner Zentrum Moderner Orient 1 fa ß te der ägyptische Politikwissenschaftler A¥mad {Abdall¸h im Sommer 1999 die Positionen arabischer Intellektueller bezüglich der Glo- balisierung mit drei Worten zusammen: „Dagegen, dafür und da- zwischen“. Weitere Qualifizierungen oder Konkretisierungen lehnte er mit der Begründung ab, da ß sich die Debatte noch in ihren An- fängen befinde. Der in Ägypten lebende syrische Politikwissenschaft- ler Walºd Qadº¥a 2 vertrat ein halbes Jahr zuvor im Rahmen eines Symposiums über „Globalization: Political, Social and Cultural Im- pacts on the Middle East“ 3 nahezu die gleiche Auffassung. Die ab- lehnende Haltung seitens arabischer Intellektueller gegenüber den Globalisierungsprozessen brachte er jedoch ausschlie ß lich mit is- lamistischen Vertretern in Verbindung. In der Tat kann der Beginn arabischsprachiger Veröffentlichungen über al-{aulama (Globali- sierung) auf das Jahr 1998 zurückdatiert werden. Dabei spielte ein vom Beiruter „Center For Arab Unity Studies“ herausgegebener Sammelband mit dem Titel „Die Araber und die Globalisierung“ 4
