Westport, CT, USA: Greenwood Press, 2007. Price: not stated; hardback; 426 pages. Encyclopedia of Th e Middle Passage very carefully documents the history of between 9 mil- lion and15 million Africans transported “to the Americas [New World] . . . a process known as the trans-Atlantic slave trade, [that] formed part of the larger process of European expan- sionism” from fi fteen through the nineteenth centuries,” (Introduction; p. xv). Readers are further informed: “Th e term Middle Passage constituted one leg of what has been called the ‘triangular trade’, a phrase most often associated with the British,” (page xv). Th e 426-page impressive tome has been dedicated to two giants of the study of African and world history in the contexts of the “peculiar institution”; or the slave trade: the Uni- versity of Oxford-educated and Trinidad and Tobago’s fi rst indigenous Prime Minister, Eric Williams; and Africa’s Joseph Inikori; Williams and Inikori are known for their seminal works in the study of slavery: William’s Oxford doctoral study was later published
