Literature Review Stuar t Elden Some Are Born Posthumously: The French Afterlife of Henri Lefebvre When Henri Lefebvre died in June 1991, he left behind a remarkable legacy of writing. 1 Over sixty books of original research, editions of the writings of Marx, Hegel and Lenin, and a couple of edited volumes. A few book chapters and numerous articles, scattered across a range of journals and newspapers, many of which treated topics not discussed in his longer writings, add to his legacy. Lecture courses, currently unpublished, also treated different themes, such as sexuality. As he said in 1975, ‘I write a lot, a lot more than I publish, but I do not consider myself as a writer ’. 2 Despite this denial, Lefebvre will doubtless be remembered for his writings above all.
