Notes on Contributors Cecilia Díaz Méndez is professor of sociology at Oviedo University (Spain). She has a degree in Psychology from the Universidad Autónoma in Madrid and she has a PhD in Sociology from the University of Oviedo. Since 1996 her teaching topic has been the Sociology of Food Consumption and she is currently the director of a research team on the Sociology of Consumption at Oviedo University. Her recent works include: Análisis crítico de las fuentes estadísticas de consumo alimentario en España. Una perspectiva sociológica ( Revista Española de Investigaciones Sociológicas , CIS, 2005) and Consumo, seguridad alimentaria y salud: una perspectiva de análisis desde las ciencias sociales ( Revista Internacional de Sociología , CSIC, 2005). Her research interests are oriented towards the Sociology of Food and she is the director of di ff erent works on food behavior. She is currently working on the project “Dieta mediterránea y prácticas alimentarias: un estudio comparado de las representaciones sociales sobre la dieta saludable en un contexto de crisis del conocimiento e incertidumbre alimentaria” (Plan Nacional de Inves- tigación 2003–2006) in collaboration with other Spanish universities (Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia) and universities in Italy (Bologna and Naples) and Portugal (Porto).
