According to the report, the domestic production of pharmaceutical products was ¥6.29 trillion (US$57 181.18 million). Of the total, ¥5.4382 trillion (US$49 438.18 million) was for prescription drugs, representing 86.5% of the total production. The breakdown by drugs based on the classiŽ cation of indications is as follows: 17.5% for the circulatory system, 8.7% for metabolism, 8.4% for the central nervous system, 8.3% for the digestive system, and 7.2% for dermatology and others. The top 10 drugs in this primary classiŽ cation represented 72.9% of the total. Drugs with annual production amounts exceeding ¥250 billion (US$2 272.72 million) are as follows, based on the secondary classiŽ cation of indications: ¥347.5 billion (US$3 159.09 million) for antibiotics for Gram-positive and -negative bacillus, ¥302.6 billion (US$2 750.90 million) for peptic ulcers, and ¥297.5 billion (US$2 704.54 million) for other metabolic drugs.
