Indeterminism versus Determinism in Contemporary Sociological Thought Indeterminism versus Determinism in Contemporary Sociological Thought * ERNEST KRAUSZ and GITTA TULEA Bar-Ilan University, Ramat-Gan, Israel THE WORKS AND PAPERS CONSTITUTING the main content of sociological literature of the early seventies, which were announcing in one way or another the coming crisis of (Western) sociology, are now replaced primarily by a new sociological trend in which the stress is perhaps not so in- sistently directed towards the search for new values but, rather, on reconsider- ing and/or emphasizing the relevance of some old values ignored or considered marginal in the process of past sociological knowledge. In this new perspective it will become useful to undertake a reconstruction of the recent history of sociological thought from the standpoint of a new scenario which would place a compensatory stress on what has been culturally excluded or avoided. Maybe also for the reason that the conventional view of history is no longer considered as the only possible one-an idea which is now spreading within the humanities-the reanalysis of the events of intellectual history is now considered no more a matter of idle curiosity but a stimulating theoretical approach; and could eventually bring about the operationalization of some topical issues of http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png International Journal of Comparative Sociology (in 2002 continued as Comparative Sociology) Brill
