MOPLISA, A NEW GENUS OF IDOTEID ISOPOD FROM SOUTHERN SOUTH AMERICA 1 ) BY PLINIO SOARES MOREIRA Instituto Oceanográfico, Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil Because of the scarcity of information on the marine Isopoda inhabiting the continental shelf of southern Brazil, an intensive systematic survey (Moreira, 1971; Moreira, in press) has been conducted from Lat. 21°00'S. The present paper, based on material collected off Rio Grande do Sul, aims to report the new idoteid genus Mopli.ra, as well as to properly correct the systematic position of the species Synidotea .rphaeromi f ormi.r Mafie-Garz6n, 1946, which is transferred to the new genus. This species was described many years ago from the coast of Uruguay, and now is recorded from southern Brazil. The present material was gathered during the GEDIP Program. Moplisa gen. n. Diagnosis. - Antenna 2 with multiarticulate flagellum. Mandible with well developed lacinia mobilis and setal row, but no molar process. Maxillipedal palp composed of 3 articles. Coxal plates of pereonites V-VII marked off dorsally by suture lines. Pleon without free pleonites; pleotelson with a suture line on either side, indicative of a partially fused pleonite.
