NOTES ON SOME INDO-PACIFIC PONTONIINAE, XXI. TYPTON BAWII SP. NOV., THE FIRST OCCURRENCE OF THE GENUS TYPTON COSTA IN THE INDIAN OCEAN (DECAPODA NATANTIA, PALAEMONIDAE) BY A. J. BRUCE East African Marine Fisheries Research Organization, P.O. Box 81651, Mombasa, Kenya Until recently the genus Tjpton Costa, 1844 was known only from the Mediter- ranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the tropical Eastern Pacific region (Holthuis, 1951, 1952). The presence of this genus in the Indo-West-Pacific region was first reported by Fujino & Miyake (1969), who recorded the presence of T. dentatus from Yoron-jima, one of the Ryu-Kyu Islands. There have been no further reports from the Western Pacific region. The discovery of a species referable to this genus in the western Indian Ocean indicates that the genus is circumtropical, extending into the northern temperate region. Typton bawii sp. nov.
