A NEW INTERSTITIAL ASELLOTE ISOPOD FROM THE ISLAND OF ISCHIA (BAY OF NAPLES), MICROJANIRA DENTIFRONS N. G., N. SP. (PARASELLOIDEA, JANIRIDAE) BY ULRICH SCHIECKE Zoologisches Institut der Universität, Kiel, Germany and EUGENIO FRESI Stazione Zoologica di Napoli, Marine Ecology Department, Ischia Porto, Italy INTRODUCTION In the past 35 years, some genera of microscopic Paraselloidea have been discovered in interstitial fresh and marine waters. The taxonomic status of these genera (Microparasellus Karaman, 1933, Microcharon Karaman, 1933, Angeliera Chappuis & Delamare Deboutteville, 1954, Microjaera Bocquet & Levi, 1955, Protocharon Chappuis, Delamare Deboutteville & Paulian, 1956, Mackinia Matsu- moto, 1956, Caecianirop.ri.r Menzies & Pettit, 1956) has been controversial. Karaman (1934) arranged Microparasellus and Microcharon in a separate family, Microparasellidae, but Hult (1941) stated that the diagnostic characters given by Karaman, "are not so very aberrant as to warrant any special family for these species". Chappuis was of the same opinion in 1944, but later (1954, 1956, 1958, 1960) he adopted the Microparasellidae without further discussion. Chappuis himself and Delamare Deboutteville ( 1954) added the genus Ange- liera to this family. Bocquet & Levi ( 195 5 ) referred their Microjaera to the Microparasellidae, but they found so many affinities between this
