Geizyon Affinis a. Milne Edwards & Bouvier, 1894, in European Waters (Decapoda, Brachyura) 208 GEIZYON AFFINIS A. MILNE EDWARDS & BOUVIER, 1894, IN EUROPEAN WATERS (DECAPODA, BRACHYURA) BY JAMES MASON and C. DAVIDSON Marine Laboratory, Aberdeen, Great Britain The distribution of Geryon affinis has recently been described by Kjennerud (1967). The species has been reported from many localities in the North and South Atlantic and Indian oceans, and has been found in depths of 410 to 2047 m. It was first discovered at the Azores (37° to 40°N) (A. Milne Edwards & Bouvier 1894, 1899). Elsewhere in the north-east Atlantic it has been reported as far north as Iceland (61°30'N-63°N) by Hansen (1908) and Rae & Lamont (1963) and recently off Norway (63°38'N) by Kjennerud (1967). Until recently there have been no records of the occurrence of Geryon affinis in the waters adjacent to the British Isles. Rae & Lamont (1963) recorded one taken on George Bligh Bank in 1957. More recently further records have been received by the Marine Laboratory, Aberdeen. These crabs, like that of Rae & Lamont, were taken on great lines by fishing boats and sent to the laboratory for identification. The only other record from these waters, hitherto unpublished, is from the British Museum (Natural History), http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Crustaceana Brill
