DESCRIPTION OF A NEW SPECIES OF NORION (COPEPODA, ANTHOSOMATIDAE) AND A REDESCRIPTION OF THE TYPE SPECIES, N. EXPANSUS VON NORDMANN BY N. KRISHNA PILLAI Marine Biological Laboratory, University of Kerala, Trivandrum 7, India In a recent study (Pillai & Sebastian, 1967) I showed that Pseudolernanthr opus Yamaguti & Yamasu (1960) is a synonym of Sagum C. B. Wilson. Since sending this paper for publication I secured another collection of copepods which closely resemble Sagurra but show close affinity with Norion Von Nordmann. The latter genus was created exactly 100 years back and was not recorded until Lewis (1964) redescribed the type species based on specimens collected from Hawaiian waters. Lewis described this species in detail and redefined the genus. Unfortunately this description contains some obvious mistakes. At my request Dr. Roger Cressey, U.S. National Museum, Washington, sent me an adult female. A detailed study of this specimen has shown that the description of N. ex pan.ru.r by Lewis needs substantial modifications. The new species described below resembles Sagum on the one hand and Norion on the other and bridges the gap between the two genera. But in view of its close resemblance to Norion in one or two important
