New Host Record for Lernaeocera Lusci (Bassett-Smith, 1896) 159 NOTES AND NEWS NEW HOST RECORD FOR LERNAEOCERA LUSCI (BASSETT-SMITH, 1896) BY Z. KABATA Marine Laboratory, Aberdeen, Great Britain Some months ago Dr. Rolf Vik, Zoological Museum, Oslo, sent to the author two specimens of Lernaeo,cera collected from the gills of Gadus esmarkii Nilsson, caught on Egersund Bank, Norway, in April 1961. No previous records of Ler- naeocera on this host are known to the author. The parasites were attached to the tissues of the gill arch itself, rather than to the base of the arch. This site of infestation is typical for L. lAsci (Bassett- Smith) and L. minuta ( T. Scott), L. branchiali.r (L. ) and L. obtu.ra Kabata, al- though sometimes occurring at this site, are usually found at the base of the arch, from where they penetrate the ventral aorta of the host. The shape of the speci- mens differed sufficiently from that of L. branchiali.r and L. oblusa to suggest that they belonged to neither of these species.
