Two new species of the genus Syngastes (Copepoda, Harpacticoida, Tegastidae) from South Korea

Two new species of the genus Syngastes (Copepoda, Harpacticoida, Tegastidae) from South Korea <jats:p>Herein two new species of the genus<jats:italic>Syngastes</jats:italic>Monard, 1924 are described from South Korea, with detailed descriptions and illustrations. Both new copepods,<jats:italic>Syngastes</jats:italic><jats:italic>multicavus</jats:italic>sp. nov. and<jats:italic>S. pseudofoveatus</jats:italic>sp. nov., have two inner setae on the first exopodal segment of P2 and P3.<jats:italic>Syngastes</jats:italic><jats:italic>multicavus</jats:italic>sp. nov. most closely resembles<jats:italic>S. gibbosus</jats:italic>Bartsch, 1999 reported from Australia, as they both have a five-segmented antennule in the female. However,<jats:italic>Syngastes</jats:italic><jats:italic>multicavus</jats:italic>sp. nov. has a rounded body outline instead of the gibbose outline observed in<jats:italic>S. gibbosus</jats:italic>.<jats:italic>Syngastes</jats:italic><jats:italic>pseudofoveatus</jats:italic>sp. nov. resembles<jats:italic>S. foveatus</jats:italic>Bartsch, 1994 in almost all aspects. However, they differ clearly in the number of setae on the first exopodal segment of P2 and P3. We also provide a key to species of the genus<jats:italic>Syngastes</jats:italic>worldwide.
