NOTES AND NEWS ADDITIONAL SPECIMENS AND RANGE EXTENSION OF BRACHYCARPUS CROSNIERI BRUCE, 1998 (DECAPODA, CARIDEA, PALAEMONIDAE) BY JUNJI OKUNO 1 / , MASATSUNE TAKEDA 2 / and TOMOKI KASE 3 / 1 / Coastal Branch of Natural History Museum and Institute, Chiba, 123 Yoshio, Katsuura, Chiba 299-5242, Japan 2 / Department of Zoology, National Science Museum, Tokyo, 3-23-1 Hyakunincho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo 169-0073, Japan 3 / Department of Geology, National Science Museum, Tokyo, 3-23-1 Hyakunincho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo 169-0073, Japan In 1996, in the course of a cryptic fauna survey of Indo-West Paci c submarine caves conducted by one of us (TK), a female palaemonid shrimp was collected from Efate Island, Vanuatu. Later, this specimen was identi ed as Brachycarpus crosnieri Bruce, 1998, a recently described species based on a single ovigerous female from the Loyalty Islands, New Caledonia. Brachycarpus crosnieri is readily distinguished from other congeneric species by the considerably longer carpus of the second pereiopod (Bruce, 1998). The senior author captured a further female of B. crosnieri from a submarine cave at Hachijo-jima Island, Izu Islands, Japan.
