Abstract

381 In the Passio (ch. 60) MacDonald follows the Martyrium Alterum A and others in having Aegetes, not the crowd, insensed: the context makes it more likely that the original reading (found in the Jerusalem-Sinai mss. and followed by Prieur) has the crowd angry. Prieur's is clearly the major scholarly edition, replete with exhaustive indexes, but MacDonald's will be a helpful volume to have to hand, especially for the English and for the apparatus to the text. He does not attempt to provide a full commentary although several excursus to the section on Gregory deal with the problems associated with Andrew's itinerary. MacDonald's typed pages cope well with Greek, Armenian, Syriac and Coptic.
