BOOK REVIEW Kurt Aland and Barbara Aland: Der Text des Neuen Testaments, pp. 342 + 71 il- lustrations, Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft 1982, Stuttgart. This book is intended to be both a students' manual and a source of information for the expert. It contains a foreword and a table of contents and then in its first chapter an account of printed editions of the Greek New Testament (GNT) to Nestle-Aland26, (NA26, 1979, corrected impression 1981). Important for the understanding of the book are sections 3 and 4. Chapter 2 describes the transmis- sion of the GNT, and 3 lists the mss of GNT and the patristic quotations, giving lists of papyri, majuscule and minuscule mss, and of the Greek fathers. Chapter 4 describes the ancient versions of the NT again with a list of relevant Fathers. Chapter 5 provides a useful introduction on the use of the Greek New Testament3 3 ( = UBS), of NA26 and of Aland's Synopsis, and chapter 6 briefly introduces us to various tools for GNT, concordances, dictionaries etc. Chapter 7, perhaps the most significant in the book, gives an introduction to the practice of GNT textual criticism with selected examples, with particular reference to
