Now, at the age of 80, he has decided to step down from the Board of the journal and its allied Supplements and to relinquish the chairmanship. Over the years he has been a doughty supporter of both the journal and the monograph series, and he has sought—with great success—to maintain and enhance their internationally recognised renown and infl uence. He has chaired the annual meetings of the Editorial Board with charm, patience and courtesy. Occasional problems experienced by the editors have been resolved by him, apparently with enviable ease, thanks to his innate diplomatic skills combined with meticulous thoroughness which guaranteed that decisions were made inclusively. Th e hallmarks of Novum Testamentum —its encouragement of verifi able scholarship, and the successful attempts of its editors to open up its pages to new scholars from across the globe as well as its welcoming established academics to contribute—will be continued, and these on a basis that seems the more secure thanks to the http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Novum Testamentum Brill
