THE VARIANTS OF DSI II BY SAMUEL LOEWINGER Jerusalem (Isr.) The first list of the variants from these fragments was published by Professor KAHLE in hls excellent book Die hebriiischen Hand.rcbriften ails der Hähle 1). This publication will be a second temptation made on the basis of the whole material reconstructed by the late Professor SUKENIK. In the first column we are giving the Massoretic text 2), and in the second the variants of DSI II. An asteric before the words signs that DSI I has the same or a similar reading. From the common variants we have to learn, that both versions represent a special group of Bible MSS from textual point of view, inspite of the differences in the orto- graphy, and are belonging to the same period. In the third column we are remarking parallels from the old translations of the Bible 3), the bab. Talmud 4) and other Hebrew MSS 5). Naturally these paral- lels are not complete. However if we intend to fix the text and to value the real importance of such variants, we have to take into con- sideration the parallels too. In the light of them we shall not read
