The force of the argu- ment must be readily conceded, save that it can have bearing on the problem of Ezekiel only after a careful process of critical analysis of the book-which there is some tendency even yet to neglect- practically every student of the book admits the reality of the Baby- lonian editor. His evidence, however, is rather scanty and for the most part based on a misinterpretation. Firstly, in Am. vii 14 Amos is said to be, except bdqer, also a bdles JiqemÎm, "a nipper of sykamore-figs". Can it be supposed that a man would be defined as a hepatoscoper and a gardener at the same time? And supposing that it is possible, what would be in such a case the from behind which Amos was taken by Yhwh ?
