The Study of Han Wooden Documents THE STUDY OF HAN WOODEN DOCUMENTS Recent Developments BY MICHAEL LOEWE An international symposium designed to review the latest de- velopments in the study of Han wooden documents was held at Kansai University in December 1992. Some thirteen scholars from China, Taiwan and England had been invited to contribute to the meeting, which had been convened on the initiative of Professor 6ba Osamu Director of the Institute of Oriental and Occidental Studies, Kansai University. In addition, the large num- ber of others who attended the sessions included scholars who have been working either on the Han documents or on the Japanese wooden material found at the site of Heijokyo "zp-:f1¡t'g . Nine papers were presented in plenary sessions, which were held in the Uni- versity's centenary hall, followed by two days of full discussion; publication of the papers, together with a bibliography of works on Han documents, is planned.
