ÉTUDE SUR LES CAO LAN PAR le Commandant BONIFACY. - Dans 1'4tude sur les Thy de la Riviere Claire, parue dans le n° de Mars 1907, il est fait allusion 4 une tribu Yao, les Cao lan, qui parlent un dialecte thy. Les Yao sont divis6s en six grandes tribus dont les noms les plus usit6s sont: 1ä pAn (7\. JtIi grande planche), Siao petite planche), Lan tien iv £Q teinture d'iudigo), QU(in 11 tr,6tiig (annamite = pantalon blanc), Cao lan hautes orebid6es), I Quân c4c (annamite = pantalon court). Parmi ces tribus, les quatre premieres seules parlent la langue yao, les Cao lan parlent, comme nous l'avons dit, un dialecte t4y, les Quant coc parlent un dialecte chinois de forme m6ridionale. C'est ce dialecte tay que nous allons 6tudier. Nous emploierons le syst6me de transcription dont nous nous sommes servi dans notre 6tude de Mars 1907.
