Globalization was the buzzword of the outgoing 20th century and will stay an important concept for the foreseeable future. Yet, as the editors of this volume rightly note, the literature on globalization has thus far paid little attention to health-related concerns and the ways these are or are not affected by globalization. Health analysts, on the other hand, have also only just begun to take into account the implications of globalization for their specific area of research. Th e present volume builds on the more general literature about globalization and on the work of a few pioneers exploring the linkage between health and globalization to contribute to what is still a rather new field of inquiry. Its 12 chapters cover both conceptual and empirical ground and cover analysis proper as well as policy proposals aimed to remedy what the respec- tive authors view as the more detrimental consequences of globalization.
