The purpose of this study is to examine the role of the expression "vehicle of the soul" in the works of Iamblichus, especially the De Mysteriis, De Anima and the fragments of the Platonic commentaries. First the author shows that Iamblichus' theory of the vehicle is a reaction to Porphyry's. Then he discusses the importance of the vehicle in Iamblichus' metaphysical system, and third he explains what the role of the vehicle is in his theurgy.
