Uberspitzt scheint mir jedoch die von ihm vertretene Uberzeugung, dafl man in der Behandlung des dolor- und labor- Motivs in der Liebe durch Properz einen wesentlichen Unterschied sehen darfe zu der Behandlung desselben Motivs durch Gallus (S. 87ff.); man weifl dazu meines Erachtens zu wenig Gesichertes in bezug auf den Inhalt der Poesie des Gallus und auf ihr Verhaltnis zu dem Werk der ubrigen Elegiendichter. Useful little book. The De die natali of Censorinus (C.) is translated from Hultsch's Teubner text of 1862 (a new Teubneriana has now been announced), but such work on the text as is available, esp. Giusta's'), has been put to good use. The translation is clear and, in as far as I have checked it, reliable.
