Papyri Containing Fragments of Eur. Phoenissae

Papyri Containing Fragments of Eur. Phoenissae PAPYRI CONTAINING FRAGMENTS OF EUR. PHOENISSAE SOME CORRECTIONS TO THE FIRST EDITIONS BY J. M. BREMER In a monograph The Textual Tradition of Euripides' Phoinissai (University of California Publications: Classical Antiquity vol. 27, Berkeley 1982) Donald Mastronarde and I have presented and discussed the evidence for the text of this play. A vital part of that evidence is a group of eighteen papyri; these papyri have been in- spected by means of good photographs and/or by autopsy. In the course of this inspection it appeared that the first publications of these papyri contained inaccuracies, incomplete information or even mistakes. The correct readings found in these papyri have already been put into the composite collation of Phoen. which forms part 2 of our monograph. But we thought it necessary to give arguments for these readings; therefore Mastronarde has provided a corrected presentation of TIs ( = Pack2 426) and fl3 ( = Pack2 416) in ZPE 38 (1980) 1-42 and 49 (1982) 7-14 respectively. In this and a following paper I intend to give the necessary corrections on the publications of the other papyri. For the sake of convenience (cross- references will be necessary) I present here the complete http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Mnemosyne Brill
