Phryne gets 23 lines (and 17 more under Courtesans), but Aspasia does not have a lemma and gets some lines of the article on Pericles. The information given is sometimes misleading, e.g. "The ancient Greeks called Sappho the 'tenth Muse' and sometimes com- pared her work with Homer's. What little we know of her work confirms this opinion" (the layman will conclude that she wrote in the epic style). Hesiod is called "a poor peasant who had to scratch a living from the soil for himself and his family" (in Hesiod's eyes poverty was a mark of failure: cf. P.
