Abstract

218 27-9 and the note by B. Meritt, Hesperia m (Ig42), 284, which shows that we should read Iasile instead of Basile. Seven appendices are intended as a sort of plan for the following chapters which will have to be written eventually. The one on kouyoi and korai, starting from the suspicion that these statues may be connected with male and female initiations, might well profit by a careful study of the votive inscriptions belonging to kouyoi and koyai (see e.g. A. E. Raubitschek, Dedications from the Athenian Akropolis, 1949, nr. 22g : a kore dedicated as aparche to Poseidon by a man). LEIDEN, Archaeologisch Instituut F. T. VAN STRATEN DE NOVIS LIBRIS IUDICIA A. TOYNBEE, Some Problems of Greek History. London, Oxford University Press, 1969. XII, 538 p. 3 maps.
